How trees in mobile planters provide cooling

A recent study by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) at the Basel Exhibition Centre impressively demonstrates that urban trees in mobile planters can significantly reduce surface temperatures in city centres. Temperatures of only 26°C were measured in the shade of a large tree in a mobile tree planter – compared to over 43°C on the neighbouring asphalt. This difference of almost 18°C underlines the enormous potential of greening measures for urban climate adaptation.

The mobile tree planters used for this installation were manufactured by GARTENMETALL. The installation and planning on site was carried out by Bauer Baumschulen AG.
