The square-conical and square-cube-shaped TREND planters are characterised by durability and high-quality workmanship. The C-shaped bevelling at the top edge gives the planters their stability. As protection against heat and frost, we recommend the installation of root insulation panels.

Square-Cube Shape

These cube-shaped planters with a square base will find a spot in any front yard, on any patio, or in any entryway. The planters come standard with a water-permeable bottom. If the planters are to be filled directly with soil, we recommend lining the insides with root barrier panels. The rigid polystyrene foam panels provide long-lasting protection for the root zone against heat and frost damage. As a precaution, a coaster should be placed underneath, especially when setting up Corten steel planters. This prevents rust stains on patios and paved surfaces.

TREND Planters

Square-Conical

Our conical TREND planters have a square base and look particularly elegant thanks to their slender base. The shape really showcases grasses or taller plants. The bottom of the metal planters is water-permeable as standard, and all edges are rounded. If the planters are to be filled directly with soil, we recommend lining the interior with root barrier mats. The hard polystyrene foam mats provide long-lasting protection for the root zone against heat and frost damage. As a precaution, especially when placing Corten steel planters on sensitive surfaces, a coaster should be placed underneath. This prevents rust stains on patios and paved areas.

Accessories for Metal Planters

Coasters to Protect Against Rust

A stainless steel coaster protects the patio floor from potting soil and rusty water. Since coasters have limited water-collection capacity, heavy rain or excessive watering will cause water to overflow, resulting in some soiling.

Note: It is essential to install wooden or plastic spacers with a minimum thickness of 10 mm between Corten steel planters and the stainless steel coaster. Only then can the planter dry out repeatedly, even at the base.

Root Insulation Panel

To protect the root zone from frost and heat, we recommend root insulation panels made of extruded polystyrene rigid foam (XPS), 20 mm thick, which can be cut to size on site.

Frequently Asked Questions About the TREND Planters

The TREND planter is designed for targeted planting on patios, in gardens, front yards, and entryways. Gartenmetall offers it as a compact, freestanding metal model. Depending on the plants chosen, the TREND can be used, for example, for herbs, perennials, or ornamental plants. The planter body is fully welded.

TREND is available in square-cube and square-conical shapes. The cube-shaped version is available in 400 × 400 × 400 mm, 600 × 600 × 600 mm, and 800 × 800 × 800 mm.

The square-conical planter is available in two standard versions: 500 mm high with a top width of 500 × 500 mm and a bottom width of 320 × 320 mm, and 900 mm high with a top width of 500 × 500 mm and a bottom width of 250 × 250 mm. The top edge of both designs is 40 mm wide and 20 mm deep.

TREND is available in Corten steel, stainless steel, and a color-coated stainless steel version. For the Corten steel version, Gartenmetall uses weather-resistant structural steel S355J2W+N, material no. 1.8965; the visible surfaces are delivered with a pre-rusted finish. For color-coated versions, various RAL colors are available depending on the selected variant.
The visible surfaces of the TREND planters, made of Corten steel, are delivered with a pre-rusted finish. Under natural weathering conditions, the patina characteristic of Corten steel continues to develop. The formation of the protective barrier layer requires alternating wet and dry weather conditions. Color variations and changes in the rust tones are therefore a natural part of the material’s development.

Yes. Especially while the Corten steel patina is developing, rust water and rust particles can leave marks on patio slabs or other delicate surfaces. Gartenmetall recommends using a suitable stainless steel coaster in these areas.

Wooden or plastic spacers of at least 10 mm must be placed between Corten steel planters and coasters to allow the ground beneath to dry out. During heavy rain or very vigorous watering, even a coaster can overflow due to its limited capacity to collect water.

The standard version of the TREND planter has a water-permeable bottom. This allows excess water to drain out the bottom. For a structurally sound design, Gartenmetall also recommends installing a dimpled membrane on the inner sides to prevent water from pooling along the edges.
If you fill the TREND planter directly with soil or growing medium, Gartenmetall recommends insulating the inner walls. For this purpose, 20-mm-thick root insulation panels made of extruded polystyrene rigid foam (XPS) are available. They reduce the impact of the metal body’s temperature on the root zone and help protect against heat and frost damage.

A set of casters is available as an option for the square, cube-shaped TREND planters. The Gartenmetall product catalog specifies a caster diameter of 50 mm for this purpose; the distance between the planter and the ground is then approximately 40 mm.


For the square, conical TREND model, however, the caster set is not recommended due to the increased risk of tipping.

Yes. In addition to standard sizes, Gartenmetall offers custom dimensions and colors for TREND. The specific dimensions and finishes that can be technically implemented should be determined on a case-by-case basis for each project.
TREND is designed for compact, freestanding planters with square-cubic or square-conical shapes. If larger dimensions, additional shapes, or more extensive project-specific features are required, Gartenmetall offers the TERRESTA product family. RONDA, on the other hand, refers to round planting rings and planting borders. Gartenmetall also offers a separate product line for classic tree planters.
