RONDA - Planter rings

The round planters RONDA are designed for free-standing solitary plantings with shrubs and smaller woody plants. They are available with a surrounding rim and in the "solid" version with a sharp edge. Thanks to the rounding, both versions are dimensionally stable. Larger planting rings with a diameter of more than ø240 cm are produced in 2 parts.

Stable shape for trees and shrubs

The round must go into the round! Large metal planting rings RONDA are designed for free-standing specimen plantings such as trees, larger shrubs, but also for a classic raised bed planting. Due to the round shape of the metal, the planting rings are dimensionally stable and raised beds up to over 900 mm high are possible. By default, the planting rings are made of 3 mm thick metal(Corten steel, stainless steel or color-coated stainless steel), in case of higher requirements, they can be made of 5 mm thick sheet metal.

Note: We manufacture planting rings with a diameter larger ø240 cm in 2 parts. This saves transport costs and makes handling on the construction site much easier. In addition, this allows the rings to be placed around existing trees. At the separated point, however, certain dimensional and shape deviations always occur due to the manufacturing process and the ring loses stability.

Filling metal planting rings

Stable shape for trees and shrubs

The large, round metal rings can be filled with normal planting soil, but a layered design like raised beds is also possible. For more details, please contact the installing gardening and landscaping company or check the Internet.

Planting ring RONDA with surrounding edge

The planting ring RONDA with surrounding edge is made of 3 mm thick material. Due to a 60 mm thick bevel on the upper edge, the raised bed is inherently stable. From a diameter of ø240 cm we recommend to manufacture the rings in 2 parts to reduce transport costs. In this case, the connection is øsimilarly stable and simple as with the proven TERRESTA screw system. The production is made to order. Therefore, intermediate dimensions are well possible.

Planting ring RONDA Solid

The metal planting ring RONDA MASSIVE is made of 3-5 mm thick material and without a surrounding edge. Here, too, we recommend for transport reasons and to simplify handling on the construction site to manufacture the ring in 2 parts, the planting ring should exceed a diameter of ø240 mm überschreiten. Depending on the height and diameter, we reserve the right to weld inside a reinforcing ring or ring segments with a width of about 50 mm, so that the shape, especially at the end, can be kept stable. This ring is not visible in the befüllten state.

Accessories for planting rings RONDA

For better fixation, the large metal planting rings can be driven into the ground with flat iron anchors. For corten steel rings, corten steel anchors are best used, and for stainless steel planting rings, stainless steel flat iron anchors. These are not visible afterwards, but disappear completely into the ground. Per planting ring, 4 to 8 flat iron anchors with the practical receiving slot are recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions about RONDA Metal Plant Rings

RONDA provides a clean border for circular planting areas and, depending on its height, can serve as a low edging or a round raised bed. Typical applications include perennial and herb beds, shrubs, specimen plantings, and small trees. Different heights and diameters can also be combined.
RONDA is available in Corten steel, stainless steel, hot-dip galvanized steel, and color-coated stainless steel. This allows the surface finish to be selected to suit the design and the installation site. Corten steel develops its characteristic patina of weathered rust, whereas stainless steel or a color coating offers a distinctly different aesthetic effect.

RONDA features a 60 mm wide rim running around its top edge. This rim provides additional structural rigidity and creates a distinct, well-defined upper finish.

RONDA MASSIV does not have this encircling rim. Depending on the diameter and height, internal reinforcements may be included to ensure the planter ring retains its circular shape during transport, installation, and after filling. These reinforcements are not visible once the unit is filled.

Yes. RONDA is specifically designed for round raised beds as well and is available in materials such as Corten steel. With standard heights of up to 980 mm, it allows for the planning of both low planting areas and significantly elevated beds. Diameter and height can be tailored to the intended planting and the outdoor design.
To this end, RONDA can be manufactured in two sections. The two ring halves are positioned around the existing tree on site and bolted together. This is particularly relevant when a solid ring cannot be installed from above due to the tree canopy or existing plantings.
Flat iron anchors can be used for additional securing. Depending on the size, Gartenmetall recommends using four to eight anchors per planting ring. Matching Corten steel anchors are used for Corten steel units, while corresponding stainless steel anchors are used for stainless steel ones. Once installed, the fasteners are buried in the ground and are not visible.

When using Corten steel, it is essential to consider the runoff of rust particles and rust-laden water, particularly while the patina is developing. Consequently, adjacent light-colored paving or sensitive components should be designed to ensure that runoff water does not cause unwanted staining.

For plantings, protecting the root zone from extreme temperature fluctuations may also be a relevant factor. Depending on the site and the specific planting scheme, the structural design should therefore be determined in consultation with the landscaping contractor.

Filling with suitable planting soil is possible. Depending on the intended use, a layered structure—similar to that of a raised bed—can also be employed. When planting woody plants, factors such as the substrate, available root space, drainage, and irrigation should be taken into account during the initial sizing of the planting ring.
Yes. Custom diameters and heights are available; intermediate dimensions between standard sizes can also be manufactured. This is useful, for example, when the planting ring needs to be precisely matched to a planting plan, existing paving geometry, or an existing planting scheme.
