We’re convinced that our LIGNA privacy screen elements allow you to create a particularly decorative and functional privacy solution. The rectangular or square metal frames can be filled quickly and easily with firewood. LIGNA Frames

The metal frames, made of Corten steel, stainless steel, or color-coated stainless steel, are reinforced at the corners and have a 40 mm chamfer all around. This provides the metal frames with additional stability. Slots are provided at the bottom for secure anchoring. This allows the metal privacy screen to be secured to a concrete floor using dowels or to stable ground using flat anchors or ground stakes. The frames are available as standard in two heights—1,800 mm and 2,000 mm—and in two widths—1,800 mm and 2,000 mm. The depth is 380 mm or, for double storage space, 750 mm.

LIGNA Windows for a Better View

For customizing your firewood privacy screens, we offer four different window shapes: rectangular, square, round, and heart-shaped. We’re also happy to manufacture custom-framed windows according to your specifications. The windows are securely fastened to the frame using the firewood, and their arrangement can be changed when you restock the firewood.

Types of LIGNA Windows

The windows can be installed in the privacy screen in any combination and in any number. However, please make sure there is still enough space in case the wood absorbs moisture from the weather and swells.

LIGNA Privacy Fence as a Gate

For unique garden and park settings, we also offer our metal privacy fence as a gate—with or without an arch. This allows you to design the garden entrance as an eye-catching feature, for example. It is secured using dowels, flat iron anchors, or ground stakes. The gaps are filled with logs. The rectangular gate has an exterior height of 2.4 m and an exterior width of 2.0 m. The clearance height is 2.0 m and the clearance width is 1.2 m. The gate with an arched opening measures 2.6 m (2.2 m) at its highest point. The gates can hold approximately 0.7 m³–0.8 m³ of wood.

Installation of the LIGNA privacy screens

Installing the LIGNA privacy screens is quick and easy: The permanently welded frame is positioned with the mounting holes (holes/slots: 4 x ø25 mm) facing downward and then anchored to the floor using appropriate fasteners. The privacy screen is then filled with firewood, and the window is integrated at any desired location.

Accessories and Options for Privacy Screens

For special requirements, we offer various extras that allow you to customize your privacy screen to fit perfectly:

  • Canopy for better protection of the wood against moisture
  • Wider, all-around flange, e.g., 10 cm instead of 5 cm (standard) – for a more striking look
  • Back panel to prevent items from falling out the back and to provide privacy even when emptying

LIGNA Round Privacy Screen

The round version of the LIGNA privacy screen opens up entirely new possibilities for designing your garden. Important Information About LIGNA Privacy Screens

Stability of Privacy Screens

In general, a stability analysis must be provided for each structural element. According to DIN 1055, Part 3, a wind force of 500 N/m² acts on the privacy screen at 100 km/h. Therefore, a suitable foundation and stable fastening must be provided.

  • The LIGNA privacy screen must be secured against tipping and falling over.
  • A suitable foundation must be provided for the privacy screen.
  • The wood must be stacked so that it rests stably and cannot fall out.

Note on Wood Filling

If kiln-dried wood or, more generally, very well-seasoned wood is packed too tightly into our LIGNA wood storage units, the MERAN bench with wood storage, the BOZEN wood storage unit, or the TERRAN partition, the metal frame may warp due to the wood swelling. 

This can be prevented by not packing the metal frames too tightly. This allows the wood, which absorbs moisture from the outdoors due to weather conditions, to expand without causing damage.

Where to store firewood for the outdoor fire pit or the indoor wood-burning stove? The decorative LIGNA frames from Gartenmetall® offer plenty of storage space for split wood and also serve as windbreaks and privacy screens on the patio, next to the grill area, or in other places where you want to keep dried wood within easy reach. And it’s not just people who love these firewood racks—beneficial insects quickly make them their home, too.

LIGNA Wood Storage – Many Options

The sturdy metal frames, made of Corten steel, stainless steel, or with a powder-coated finish, are available in various standard sizes up to 2.0 x 2.0 m and a depth of up to 0.75 m; however, custom designs are always possible. The frames are open at the back to allow the wood to dry thoroughly. They are bolted to the floor and can then be stacked in any configuration. To add visual interest, the LIGNA firewood rack is available with windows in various shapes. In addition to rectangular shapes, the large dividers are also offered as portal or arched gates and, most recently, in a curved version for special applications. Here, the boundaries between functionality and art blur.

Frequently Asked Questions About LIGNA Privacy Screens with Firewood

LIGNA combines both functions. The welded metal frame is anchored to the ground and then filled with firewood logs. The wood filling serves as a storage space for firewood and can also shield patios, fire pits, seating areas, or other garden spaces from prying eyes.
For LIGNA, you can choose from Corten steel, stainless steel, and color-coated stainless steel. This allows the surface to be coordinated with the materials and colors of the surrounding outdoor space. The choice of materials is an important part of the planning process, especially for projects in which metal frames, wood, and adjacent components need to be harmonized aesthetically.
The product line includes, among other things, models with heights of 1,800 or 2,000 mm. Depending on the model, widths of 1,000, 1,800, or 2,000 mm and depths of 380 and 750 mm are available. The greater depth provides correspondingly more space for firewood. Custom dimensions can also be manufactured.
Yes. In addition to the standard dimensions, custom dimensions are available. Custom radii can also be created for round LIGNA elements. This allows the privacy screen to be adapted, for example, to existing patio edges, pathways, seating areas, or planned room layouts.
The actual level of privacy depends on how the frame is filled with wood. Without firewood, the frame remains open. When logs are stacked high enough and evenly, they create a solid screen. Viewing windows can be strategically placed where a clear view is desired.
No. Firewood is not included in the delivery. When loading the firewood, it should be stacked securely but not packed too tightly. If dry firewood absorbs moisture outdoors, it can expand. If the firewood is packed too tightly, this can exert significant force on the metal frame.
LIGNA must be secured to prevent tipping or falling over. On concrete, the frame can be anchored with suitable anchors; for stable ground, flat anchors or ground stakes are also provided, depending on the model. The foundation and fastenings must be appropriate for the installation situation. For structural elements, the required stability must be verified on a project-by-project basis.
A canopy is available for the LIGNA that reduces direct exposure of the stored wood to the elements. Additionally, a back panel can be installed. It closes off the rear of the frame and provides privacy even when there is less wood in storage. The appropriate configuration depends on the location, the direction the structure faces, and the intended use of the wood storage area.
Yes. For LIGNA, there are rectangular, square, round, and heart-shaped window elements. Custom designs are also available. The windows are integrated into the filling when the firewood is loaded, and can be repositioned when the firebox is refilled later.
In addition to straight privacy screens, there are round LIGNA elements as well as designs in the form of rectangular portals or arched passageways. This allows a firewood storage area, for example, to follow the curve of a terrace, frame a seating area, or visually define the entrance to a garden.
