PORTA - Garden doors

The PORTA garden doors consist of stable door posts and inserted door leaves in various designs. With type 1, the door leaf is closed and the front and back are visually identical. Type 2 is particularly suitable for laser-cut motifs as a supporting frame construction. Front and back are different here.

A pleasure to walk through: The PORTA garden gate system from Gartenmetall® ensures a warm welcome right from the front yard. With this metal garden gate, you can create privacy while also offering a personalized welcome to residents and guests.

The metal garden gate, available in two standard heights, can be combined with fence panels, CASA mailbox posts, and trash can enclosures to create a harmonious entrance ensemble.

The standard version (Type 1) of the PORTA series garden gate consists of a solid door panel mounted between two metal posts. The front and back of the garden gate look identical. In Type 2, the door panel is constructed as a load-bearing frame, with the frame visible on the back. The garden gate’s door panel can be customized with designs such as house numbers or names: either as applied decals, e.g., made of stainless steel, or laser-cut.

Construction and Technology of the PORTA Garden Gate

The PORTA garden gate models are available in standard heights of 90 cm and 180 cm, with a width of 100 cm. The solid gate panel provides privacy and stability, while the support posts are designed to be set in concrete.

The package includes a galvanized lock case, door hardware, and a stainless steel handle set. The cylinder lock is to be provided by the customer.

Upon request, the door panel can be personalized with laser-engraved house numbers, custom lettering, or designs from the VISTA collection.

Different Models

The PORTA garden gate is available in standard heights of 1,800 mm and 900 mm and offers two construction options: a solid gate panel with identical front and back sides, or a support frame construction where the front is solid and the frame is visible on the back. The support frame version is particularly well-suited for laser-cut motifs, house numbers, or custom designs.

The garden gate can be customized with designs in a variety of ways. The PORTA system offers the following options:

  • Motif attached, back side closed, welded
  • Motifs such as house numbers, names, or logos are cut out of stainless steel and mounted close to the garden gate leaf.

The designs are laser-cut into the door panel, and then the cutouts are backed with stainless steel from the inside and securely welded in place. This allows the back of the door panel to be welded shut as well.

The designs are laser-cut into the door panel, and the cutouts are then backed from the inside with color-coated stainless steel or acrylic glass. The color-coated stainless steel is securely fastened from the inside using welded bolts. In this case, the back of the door panel must be bolted shut. The same applies to designs backed with acrylic glass.

Only for door leaf designs with a support frame: The front view appears closed. The back is open so that light can shine through the laser-cut opening. The distance from the design to the edge of the door must be at least 100 mm on each side. Note: The motif is visible on the back side as a mirror image.

PORTA Garden Door as a Double Door

When combining two doors (a side door and a main door), we supply a floor-mounted slider for the side door instead of a handle set. It is installed, for example, between two existing walls.

Frequently Asked Questions: PORTA Garden Doors

TERRAN defines outdoor spaces while combining three functions in a single element: privacy screen or partition, planting area, and firewood storage. Typical locations include patios and gardens. “Gartenmetall” also refers to the structuring of areas in outdoor dining and public spaces.
The standard model is 1,000 mm high and 380 mm deep. Lengths of 1,000, 1,500, and 2,000 mm are available. Of the total height, 400 mm is allocated to the planting area and 600 mm to the wood storage area. Custom dimensions and individual modifications are available upon request.
TERRAN is available in Corten steel, stainless steel with a Rotex finish, and color-coated stainless steel. RAL and DB colors are available for the color-coated version. For the Corten steel version, Gartenmetall uses weather-resistant structural steel S355J2W+N with material number 1.8965; the visible surfaces are pre-rusted for a natural look.
In the open design, the wood storage area is accessible from both the front and back. Alternatively, the lower section on one side can be closed off with a back panel. This does not affect the plant trough above it or the overall dimensions.
The metal frame is freestanding. Depending on the location and installation conditions, TERRAN can also be secured to the ground with wall anchors or ground anchors. It is also important to have a surface that allows water to drain controlled from the planting area.
The top 400 mm are designed as a planting trough with a bottom and are intended for perennials and grasses, for example. To protect the roots from extreme temperature fluctuations, Gartenmetall recommends insulating the interior walls with a layer at least 20 mm thick. In addition, dimpled membrane and geotextile are recommended for the interior lining. Plants are not included in the delivery.
Seepage water is channeled downward from the planting area at all four corners and drains along the inside of the wood base. The wood base is open at the bottom, allowing the water to continue draining into the ground. For this reason, TERRAN should be placed on a permeable surface, or water drainage should be taken into account during the planning phase.
The bottom 600 mm serve as a storage area for firewood. Depending on the model, this area is accessible from the front and back or is closed off on one side by a back panel. This allows firewood to be stored directly inside the unit, which also helps define the outdoor space. Firewood is not included.
With Corten steel, rust water and rust particles can form as the rust patina develops. For this reason, when installing the product on sensitive patio surfaces, it’s important to determine in advance where water will drain and how the surface will be protected. For TERRAN products made of Corten steel, Gartenmetall recommends, among other things, using a suitable coaster to prevent rust stains on the patio.
Yes. Gartenmetall specifically cites the flexible partitioning and structuring of areas in outdoor dining as an application area. TERRAN can be used there to organize seating and lounge areas while also providing space for plants. The subgrade, drainage, and any necessary ground reinforcement should be planned to suit the specific installation conditions.
