TERRAN partition

With the TERRAN partition, you can kill several birds with one stone: This metal garden feature serves as a privacy screen, a planter for perennials and grasses, and a spacious firewood storage unit where firewood can be kept dry and is always quickly within reach. This opens up new design possibilities on the patio and in the garden.

If you’re primarily looking for firewood storage, we recommend our firewood storage unit  LIGNA; for planters alone, you’ll find what you’re looking for in our flexible TERRESTA planters

TERRAN Partition Wall

Features

The high-quality frame features rounded, welded, and sanded edges. The lower section serves as a firewood storage area and is open at the front and back—alternatively, TERRAN is also available with a closed back panel. The upper section is designed as a planting trough . Drainage water is channeled away at the four corners and flows through the open bottom into the ground.

To protect the roots, we recommend insulating the walls with at least 20 mm PUR insulation panels and protecting the inner surfaces from waterlogging with dimpled membrane and geotextile. Place the unit on a permeable surface and secure it with anchors or ground anchors for a secure hold.

TERRAN combines firewood storage and a planter in one—practical and stylish for your garden.

Construction of the TERRAN Partition

The metal frame is divided into a section that is open at the back for storing firewood. Above this is a planter with drainage holes in all four corners. The bottom of the TERRAN partition is open, allowing water from watering to seep into the ground.

Frequently Asked Questions About the TERRAN Partition

TERRAN is designed for situations where outdoor spaces need to be divided while also providing planting areas and storage space for firewood. The unit serves as a privacy screen and partition for patios and gardens; Gartenmetall also cites the structuring of areas in outdoor dining and public spaces as an application. The upper section is planted, and the firewood storage is located below it.
The standard height is 1,000 mm, and the depth is 380 mm. Lengths of 1,000, 1,500, and 2,000 mm are available. Of the total height, 600 mm is allocated to the wood storage area and 400 mm to the planting area. Custom dimensions and individual modifications are available upon request.
TERRAN is available in Corten steel, stainless steel with a Rotex finish, and color-coated stainless steel. The color-coated version is available in RAL and DB colors. For the Corten steel version, Gartenmetall uses weather-resistant S355J2W+N structural steel with material number 1.8965; the visible surfaces are pre-rusted for a weathered appearance.
In the open version, the firewood storage area is accessible from both the front and back. Alternatively, TERRAN is available with a back panel covering the firewood storage area, so that one side is closed off. The planting area and basic function of the unit remain the same in both versions.
The metal frame is freestanding. To further ensure stability, TERRAN can be secured to the ground. Gartenmetall refers to this as either wall anchors or ground anchors, depending on the installation situation; the foundation or suitable subgrade must be provided by the customer. The type of fastening required should therefore be determined based on the specific location.
The upper section, which is 400 mm high, is designed as a planter and is intended for perennials and grasses, for example. To protect the roots from extreme temperature fluctuations, Gartenmetall recommends insulating the interior walls with a layer at least 20 mm thick. In addition, dimpled membrane and geotextile are recommended for the interior surfaces. TERRAN is delivered without plants.
The planting area has a base. Drainage water is directed downward at all four corners and flows along the inside of the wood rack. The wood rack itself is open at the bottom. Therefore, you should determine where irrigation water and rainwater can drain before setting it up; Gartenmetall recommends a permeable surface.
The bottom 600 mm of the unit serve as a firewood storage area. Depending on the model, this area is open at the front and back or closed on one side by a back panel. This allows you to store firewood right where TERRAN is used as a partition or privacy screen. Firewood is not included.
With Corten steel, rust water and rust particles can come loose from the surface, especially as the rust patina develops. On light-colored patio slabs, natural stone, exposed concrete, or other sensitive surfaces, drainage must therefore be taken into account during installation. Depending on the installation situation, options may include, for example, a suitable coaster, spacing from the surface, a strip of gravel, or a controlled drainage system.
Yes. Gartenmetall explicitly identifies the flexible division of spaces in outdoor dining areas as a key application for TERRAN. The element can be used to define seating or lounge areas while also providing space for plants and a wood storage area. For such applications, the subgrade, drainage, and the necessary stabilization of the freestanding element should be planned on a project-by-project basis.
